This by far was the greatest moment. Never again would there be an entertainer like Elvis. Not even todays best artists are remotely close to his amazingness. Credit is due and is always overlooked.

My Aunt was in attendance back then and said there was nothing quite ever like it in her entire life. She described Elvis as looking like a Prince who somehow descended down from the Heavens... He had that much charisma so she says and his singing, everything from Rock to ballads, was incredible. I listen to a lot of things, but my Aunt - who is actually a music afficianado (even of classical music etc.) said that Elvis had the greatest voice of any popular singer she has ever known,

Presley's shows at the Garden are so vividly remembered bu those who attended them, that they seem to recall everything that they did on that day. It is not just that those in the audience represented the cream of the crop in rock history, (Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, John Lennon, David Bowie and Art Garfunkle all attended..), but that the lives of then still struggling musicians were changed as a result, as in the case of Gene Simmons of KISS, a then ocassional taxi driver in Manhattan who promised himself, to one day fill that same venue, after talking to one of the passengers he took to MSG.

My first concert, I was 11 yrs old. When Elvis came out it was totally awesome - the excitement was like electricity going thru you body. I will never forget it. Have been to close to 100 concert from LedZep - Ramones - Stones - The Boss, all the superstars of the rock era but there is only one KING - Elvis Presley - always and forever - nobody can even come close - he rocked the world then and still doing it

I was there for this concert and as usual Elvis was fantastic. There was a fan in the audience a few rows behind me that was so excited and really carrying on, enjoying the show more than anyone else in our section. I turned to see who was making all the noise, when I did I saw that the fan was blind! I think this says a lot about the music of Elvis Presley!!

Not even the Rolling Stones could sell out 4 shows there when they played in 1971. It doesn't sound impressive today but back in 1972 4 sellouts were incredible. Elvis was the only one that could do it in that era

Flag

jinx - 10/31/2006
Elvis is the only performer where a vast amount of his fans say that seeing him in person was a highlight of their life. Many say his music helped them through trying times. They still say it today. In death he still helps us. He was put here for a purpose and he fulfilled that purpose many times over. Elvis was the first performer to sell out four shows to capacity at MSG. He was the first in MANY things. He deserves recognition for this and countless other things. The NY TIMES alone ran three stories on the shows. As they said...Like a Prince from Another Planet. I wish all of you would go find all the reviews from those nights and read them. No one deserves this more.

Nobody ever asks "Elvis WHO ?" In 1956 Elvis took the world by storm and held them captivated for 21 years while he was alive and close to 30 years since that time. Elvis will always live in our minds, in our hearts, and in our words. Anyone who takes the time to know the MAN, as well as the entertainer, will understand that he was, and IS, one of the greatest persons to bless our planet with his presence.

Are you kidding me?? I'll give the King his due, but Madison Square Garden is first and foremost a sports arena, so to say that Elvis appearing there is the greatest moment is a monumental stretch.

As a longtime Elvis fan, these MSG shows were by far some of the best concerts Elvis ever performed. My father took me to the 6/10 afternoon show and for a youngster it was an amazing experience for me. It was the first album I purchased as a kid and I put cracks in my parents ceiling jumping on my bed & singing & doing my elvis moves to it. I love the MSG shows and would love to see more come out about them, including videos if they exist.

From '69-77 Elvis performed over 1000 shows his long standing lead guitarist James Burton said "This was probably the finest I heard Elvis sing" If anyone hasn't listened to the C.D "An afternoon in the Garden" then I suggest they do so. "Never been to Spain"at full volume on it's own is enough to convince the uneducated let alone the rest. The awsome ability of this man was and still continues to be the ONLY exception to the rule.

At the end of the concert, when he sang 'Can't Help Falling In Love', I remember thinking, " this is what Love must feel like". He is without a doubt the greatest star of all time, and should be number 1!!!

I brought my love, my fiancee' Barbara, to see her first love, Elvis, on the evening of June 8, 1972. I had suprised her with tickets to the show which I bought while everyone else line was buying Led Zeppelin tickets. I did it for Barbara but was pleased when I realized that Barbara was a great judge of talent . I have to say that that night I joined the legion of Elvis fans. Barbara has since added to her collection of Elvis music and memoriablia and to this day has continued to be an avid Elvis fan. Elvis left us too soon but his memory and especially the night of June 8, 1972 held at the World's Greatest Arena, Madison Square Garden will be forever with us. Lastly, his album was recorded at the show that we attended and we have both the origianl vinyl record and the remastered cd.

Elvis started it all. Then unified it in a way that we now call not only Rock-n-Roll, but Pop. That's why he is still revered all over the Globe 30 years after his death. The essence of Elvis (his Soul&Spirit) will never die.

Hello everybody, i've been following this for the last couple of weeks and i've got to say,i'm touched at all the love and respect for the KING, Elvis.I'm sad though because well, the highest rating i've seen for Elvis so far, was third? I can't imagine for the life of me Elvis not being # 1.Elvis more than DISERVES this Honour! So i think this poll should start with Elvis on top and everybody else well ...whatever, doesn't really matter. As for the Garden Great place #1 building in my eyes! Put The KING and The GARDEN together...what do you get...#11111111111111111.

OK, I have to give credit where credit is due. I'm not really an Elvis fan but i'll tell you one thing that i'm sure i'll never witness again, and that is the response from the crowd when Elvis walked out on to the stage that night in June of '72. I was 17 and since then,i've seen the biggest stars of the last well since that night up till now,The Stones,The Who,The Boss ect.I'm sure i'll never see that again,so i tip my hat off to Elvis and give him the #1 spot at the Garden even though i had to wait in line for 30hrs to get tickets for his concert,it still boggles my mind today.

My Mom Bought tix to his last concert and was taking me. However, he died 2 days before he was to do his concert here in Maine. I was only five, but remember all the sadness America and the world felt when he died. It seems like it was always on the news for months. His impact on the world is immeasurable. His spirit will be with us forever. Someday we will all see him again.

In the Entertainment World there is and always will be One who Stands Untouched for all time...ELVIS! In June of 1972 in N.Y.City ROCK ROYALTY was about to grace the city! 4 sold-out Shows 80,000 plus incl. other rock stars that were in att: were about to be changed for ever.I myself was at one of those shows.Even now 34 years later my eyes still see those 1000's of flashbulbs going off and my ears still hurt because of all the screaming...but once in a life time show! There's nothing more that i could say about who should get the # 1 spot.I'm not surprised what people are writing about Elvis so i'm not going to write any more about it.All i want to share with you is my one image that is burned in my mind for the rest of my life...and that is when Elvis was taking his final bows before leaving the stage on Sunday afternoon in the Garden.Just before leaving,he walked to center stage, knelt down on one knee looking straight up at the roof and with both of his arms, took both ends of his cape and spread his cape to reveal that he was truly The King of Rock and Roll!An image that i've yet to see matched buy ANYONE and most likely won't.For this ELVIS you are # 1 at the Garden and always will be!

It's taking me all day to come up with some kind of explanation to calm me down because of this 15th rating position for the...well the single most influencial person of the 20th Century! Come on we all know the polls can be minipulated, so i say it should start all over again. This has been a disgrace to the memory and the fans all over the world, and we owe it to Elvis to place him where he belongs on his thrown on top! This MSG rating should be thrown out and pissed on! Elvis should be #1 and if not the top 5. I have to say though, all the love and respect i've read up to this point for Elvis even to this day has been comforting...thank you. Well, it does seem like Elvis is number 3 on this list here anyway. With Elvis gone almost 30 years he is bigger than ever. It is my estimation that he will continue on and on while all these others will be almost forgotten. Trust me, Elvis is King no matter what, and always will be. Hope this is some consolation to his placement of 15 on the madison square garden tv poll. Wait till the summer when all things will be Elvis for his 30th anniv. Elvis will be everywhere, guarenteed. Maybe that will influence the next poll. It is practically inarguable to compare anyone to The King. In a few years nobody will be able to argue that without sounding foolish. Only Jesus is greater! Later for now!

This world today needs an ELVIS. He was the most CARING and GIVING HUMANITARIAN , LOVING , KIND and GENEROUS and never wanting anything in return from anyone at anytime. Never did he want to be Supernatural , he just wanted to be like all of us...Human and believe me we all make Mistakes. In short... ELVIS...in life tou did not like to be called The King , so I'll put it simply...your #1 in nall our Hearts and in all the MSG's you Graced your presence with.I am and countless others are gratefull that you lived in our lifetime. Why 15? If you go by the polls, Elvis has the most votes! He is certainly the most famous person to ever live.Almost a million people visit Graceland every year, and he sold more records than anyone in history. These are facts that can't be disputed. Again, why is he 15. They have an intoxicated Marilyn Monroe singing Happy Birthday off key and flat, ahead of him. This country needs to look in the mirror.

To sum this MSG Tv Poll up, well it's nothing but a joke. I mean come on Elvis Presley 15th...what's with that? I mean i like Elvis but i'm no die hard fan. I think he should be in the top 5.I give him credit for selling out MSG 4 shows in a row and in that time when you had to go to the box office and stand in line to buy tickets and wait for hours and hours.I've read where fans waited 24-48 hrs to buy his tickets and even days at a time! Well this tells me he was big then and even today he's BIG. My little nephew is 10 and loves Elvis...will it ever stop...i don't think so, not in our life time anyway. Like JonBonJovi said of Elvis "Elvis was the first true Rock and Roll Superstar and eveybody else followed in his footsteps" what more can you say? ROCK ON ELVIS...

If this MSG TV Poll was done in Chicago rather than in N.Y., i can guarante you one thing, Elvis would with out a question be # 1.Elvis turned the city of Chicago inside and upsid down with his 3 sell-out's at the Stadium in 1972. I was there for the 3 show's and my life has never been the same since. How one man can stand alone on stage, get a response the way Elvis did night after night is still, well, beyond me. I've seen some pretty big acts in music and NOTHING compared to Elvis. ELVIS stood alone then and even today he stands alone...on top where he truly belongs. MSG TV Poll should, when it's over and done with, give ELVIS his true standing, and that's # 1 and i'm sure there's going to be alot of FANS out there that will agree with me.

I know lots of people and some friends of mine who were lucky enough to see Elvis in Detriot in 1972 and they all said the same,"it was a life changing expierence, the sheer Thunder response from the crowd for Elvis was overwhelming...one man all alone infront of SRO crowds what a sight to behold". One friend of mine waited 72hrs in line for tickets and there were hundreds of them and this was 5:00 a.m. what's more the concert was a month away, needles to say the concert was sold-out by noon that day.
